Why Ground Control Points Matter.

If you’ve ever wondered how drone surveys become construction documents your team can actually use, Ground Control Points (GCPs) are the answer. Here’s the plain truth: when a drone captures aerial images, those images are georeferenced—meaning we need to know exactly where they are in physical space. GCPs are marked reference points on the ground with known GPS coordinates. Our pilots place them strategically across your site, capture them during the flight, and then use them to calibrate all the drone data we collect. The result? Orthomosaic maps and 3D models that are accurate to within inches, not feet. That level of precision matters when you’re tracking progress, verifying earthwork, or documenting as-built conditions. Without GCPs, you’ve got good photos. With them, you’ve got high level construction intelligence.
